How to Participate

Students, Teachers, and Schools

Teachers, staff, and school administrators are encouraged to present this opportunity to their students. Students are asked to submit a one to two paragraph abstract describing their research project by March 28th, 2014 to Gabriel Higuera (ghiguera@gc.cuny.edu). Conference organizers will respond to all submissions with feedback.  Students will then work on their projects and submit a final paper to conference organizers by April 21st. Feedback will be given to each submission, and students will present their research at Queens College in small thematically-grouped panels moderated by college students, faculty, and community leaders, and open to question-answer periods following the presentations.

Community-Based Arts, Cultural, and Civic Organizations

We are reaching out to community organizations to make this opportunity available to the youth they serve.  The forum is an opportunity for youth to be a part of the network between academia and communities of arts and justice. Conversations involving youth whose expertise is informed from involvement in out-of-the-class learning environments, be they social justice campaigns, arts, or cultural activities, allows for more nuanced approaches to the issues at hand. We encourage community organizations to support the participation of their youth in this conference as they conduct their research and ultimately present their findings on May 2nd at Queens College.

Good Morning! We will have a light breakfast for participants and students from 9am to 10am. There is no programming during that time. The symposium officially begins at 10am. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, and we hope to see you and your students there!

    Good Morning:

Our school is located in the Bronx and we would need to take public transportation if we were to participate. What time does everything begin?
